Thoughts About Pots - Erica Spitzer Rasmussen

This talk sponsored by the Christopher U. Light Lectureship in the Arts

Erica Spitzer Rasmussen takes pleasure in challenging the idea of what constitutes a book. An artist and educator who specializes in sculptural objects, her work often explores family stories and issues around personal identity. Rasmussen creates one-of-a-kind and limited-edition hand-bound books using unorthodox media (such as dehydrated tomatoes, human hair, fish scales and the ashes of loved ones) and taking unconventional shapes (like seed pods, shoe soles, and garments).

Rasmussen teaches studio arts at Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and is the sole proprietor of Hot Tomato Press.

The exhibit Books Abound: Artists' Books by Erica Spitzer Rasmussen will be on view in Gould Library from March 20 through April 30, 2024
